The heritage event in July was undoubtedly the inscription of the Cordouan lighthouse on the Unesco World Heritage List!
The decision was announced at the end of July after several years of an application that brought together the State, the Mixed Union for the Sustainable Development of the Gironde Estuary (Smiddest), local authorities and especially several thousand individuals wishing to support the project.
To welcome this very good news, here is a view taken at the beginning of the twentieth century showing visitors at the top of the lighthouse, which is not yet electrified:
The view comes from the Besson fonds, whose images were taken by his grandfather Alexis Croly-Labourdette, former notary and amateur photographer born in 1879 in Bourg-sur-Gironde.
